Local learning objective repository

The local learning objective repository is an addition to the national learning objective repository, which is common for all sites in a country. However, sometimes a national curriculum is unavailable or too complex to use, in which case a school or municipality feel the need to create their own learning objectives or curriculum plan. This is where the local learning objective repository comes into use.

Admins: Getting started

System administrators have the local learning objective repository turned on by default, but by editing other profiles or creating a policy, it is easy to grant other users access.

To allow a profile or policy, go to Admin >> Profiles >> Edit profile, and check the box in front of Learning objective repository management. Then select whether or not to limit the learning objective repository management to site or school level.

If you want to grant specific users access to manage the local learning objective repository, create a policy and select the Learning objective repository management setting. The profile or users that are connected to the policy will not see a new option under Admin called Learning objective repository.

Managing learning objectives in the repository

After clicking Learning objective repository you can select the site or school to which you want to manage the learning objective repository in the Select an organisation drop-down (some users may not see this option, in which case the repository they are allowed to manage opens right away).

The tree structure of the learning objective repository contains four levels that are distinguished by different icons:

Icon Level type Description
Folder Used to organise subjects, for example, by educational segments such as primary or secondary education.
Subject Contains a set of learning objectives that share a common context, for example, History, Geography or Mathematics. When a subject is published, the icon turns green.
Category Used to organise learning objectives within a subject, for example, 'Year 7' or 'Critical thinking and problem solving'. Using categories is optional, but it may make it easier for teachers to find the learning objectives. You can add categories within categories to create more levels.
Description

The actual objective which can be used on plans, elements – such as tests and assignments – and be assessed and reported on. Learning objectives should contain something that can actually be measured.

Creating a CSV import file

Manually adding elements to the repository is time-consuming, but it is possible to import a finished structure from a CSV file, for example, a file made in a spreadsheet such as Excel. The import file must be built using a specific structure. An example file is available for download.

The file must have five columns. Title and Description are the same as you see when manually adding content to the repository, the other two are new. ClosedRead more ...
