Courses

A course in itslearning is a workspace which has a limited number of participants and deals with a specific subject. Examples of such subjects are mathematics, biology or history. When a new course is added, it is empty. It is up to the teachers to build the courses with content, either themselves or by importing a content package filled with learning content.

Teachers can add files, folders, links, lessons, discussions, conferences, surveys and more to the courses. Within a course the teachers can hand out assignments and tests which are submitted via itslearning. Assignments can be checked for plagiarism by means of the built-in plagiarism control. It is possible to attach learning objectives to all the different assignments and tests, which makes it easier for both teachers and learners to follow the progression connected to the curriculum.

In the course the learners have working portfolios and assessment portfolios. The assessment portfolios, which are the learners' collection of their best work, can be made available to the general public on the Internet. The learners themselves can set the access permissions.

Teachers can keep absence and assess the learners in a course.

The course dashboard

The course dashboard is the landing page of a course. It has a navigation tree to the left which is unique to this course (see below).

Adding courses

Only teachers and administrators are allowed to add courses. The process of adding courses is very simple, but a newly created course is empty and has no content, unless you create the course from a template. The Add course link is located both on the main page and under the Courses tab.

Adding courses as favourites

Any favourites you have added are listed here. When you mark a course as a favourite it is also displayed on the main page under the Courses heading.

You add elements and courses as favourites by clicking the grey star in theCourses overview. When an element is a favourite, the star is orange. Click the star again to remove it from your favourites. The star then turns white.

Granting participants temporary access to courses

When a participant is withdrawn from a course, for example through an integration with the school's student management system, it is possible for a teacher/administrator to temporarily re-activate the withdrawn participant's access to the course. Students can be granted temporary access from Participants >> Unenrolled participants. Once granted, the student is will have the same access to the course as any other course participant. Note: This feature is not enabled by default. To enable it, please contact your local support team.
